Provide clothes to Arlington school kids to set them up for success
Did you know that nearly 9,000 kids in Arlington County qualify for free or reduced price lunch? In certain parts of South Arlington, 1 in 3 families do not earn enough to to pay for shelter, food, medical care and other essentials like clothing. These are families that cannot reliably afford to give their kids clothing as they are constantly growing and changing.
The Clothesline for Arlington Kids aims to provide a welcoming place where school kids can shop with dignity and respect for a full season's worth of clothes - totally free-of-charge! Families come twice a year to select shirts, pants, underwear, socks, shoes, coats, bras and other items for their kids to keep them warm at the bus stop and confident in the classroom.
As one of our clients told us in a recent visit: “Thank you all very much for this great service and organization. I know the impact you are making on my son is greater and longer lasting than I can imagine. He is growing without feeling a lack of nice and comfortable clothes. He feels equal to his peers. And that I noticed that his confidence has grown tremendously at his soccer practice, at school, and extended day as well.”
Your support helps pay for items that we must buy new (underwear & socks) as well as fill in gaps in our inventory as we serve over 1,200 kids this year. A donation of $120 will provide new socks, underwear and shoes to 3 kids. Helping students dress with comfort and confidence can let them get the most out of school!
Our Board and certain key donors will match the first $20,000 of donations through the end of the year. Double your impact for Arlington families!
Please also consider making a recurring gift to The Clothesline - allowing us to plan for future seasons with confidence and take advantage of buying opportunities.
Thank you!
